The Hanbat National University in Korea has awarded four (4) graduates from the KNUST (College of Engineering), full scholarships to pursue postgraduate programmes in the fields of engineering including: Chemical Engineering, Applied Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Telecommunication Engineering.
This forms part of the Hanbat's contribution to KNUST's desire to become a world leader in science and technology education. A Hanbat delegation visited KNUST and requested applications from bright engineering students for admission on full scholarship. Meanwhile, the successful applicants would be expected to return to KNUST after their studies for consideration as teaching staff.
In a statement, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor William O. Ellis, stated the University's preparedness to defray the full cost of their air tickets to and from Korea. He also assured the students of the University's unflinching support in the course of their studies, and urged them to live up to expectation and excel in their academic pursuit.
Professor Ellis underscored the need for KNUST to collaborate with other Asian Universities, especially in the area of staff capacity building. He, therefore, considered the awardees as prospective staff members of the University upon completion of their respective programme of study abroad.
The Provost of the College of Engineering, Professor S.I.K. Ampadu, admonished the students to take advantage of the technology in the host country (Korea) and make exploits when they return to KNUST. He discouraged them from defecting to the West for greener pastures, but rather return to Ghana and make their home University proud.
In a response, one of the students Kojo Atta Aikins, on behalf of his colleagues expressed appreciation to Management for the opportunity to represent KNUST on scholarship abroad. He stated that they will live above reproach and do everything possible to fulfill their promise and return to offer their services to KNUST.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ellis, in a formal presentation handed over the Admission/Scholarship Letters to the four (4) successful applicants namely: Mr. Jim Mensah Kabenla Mizeakyi, Mr. Godwin Kwame Ahiale, Mr. Kojo Atta Akins and Mr. Samuel Tweneboah-Kodua who were selected out of the 21 applications which were submitted for consideration.
